November 2008

Well, it has been almost 2 weeks since the last post…

The big news is that Cameron has cut his second tooth! He now has his two bottom front teeth. He wasn’t too bad with this one either. This time we knew what we were looking for so, when he cheeks started getting rosie we knew a tooth was on its way. Now he spends all his time rubbing his tongue along his two front teeth. The second tooth only really pushed through the gum yestereday, but he has been rubbing it with his tongue for the past week. He is doing well though and seems not too bothered by the whole thing.

Cameron is sitting up by himself and is now interested in his toes and anything else you put in front of him.

Everything ends up in his mouth! He likes to laugh, and to kick his legs when he is excited. He is making lots of new noises – sheiks, squeels, yelps and anything else that he can get out of his lips. He continues to blow bubbles….

Cameron also loves to listen to music. He usually spends some time each day (usually while I watch Coronation Street) listening to Brett playing his guitar. On some special nights, the two of them jam…Brett on guitar and Cameron on his rattle! – neither finishes a song!

Cameron has had vegetables for the past few weeks and he seems to like them all – peas, carrots, peas and carrots combined, squash, sweet potatoes and green beans. Today he is going to have chicken for his lunch – we’ll see how that goes. We are going to do a couple of days of meat and then try some fruits and then he will be on a full menu of all three.  He is quite funny when he eats his solids – he is like a little bird…his mouth is wide open as soon as he swollows ready for another spoonful – it’s cute!

Last week, my friend Debi was in Ottawa for a work conference, so we got to spend some time together and she got a chance to meet Cameron. He was his usual self…playing shy and then being very serious…

img_1157Debi, Mike, Annie and Faye gave Cameron a great book about Animals, and as you can see Cameron loves it :-)

What else have we been up to… We have done a bit of Christmas shopping, I have done all our Christmas cards – they will be mailed this weekend, and really that’s about it! Time seems to be passing by so quickly and some times I have no idea what we have done or where the time has gone.

We have found a caregiver for Cameron for next September. We are very happy with our choice and feel very confident with our decision -it’s not going to be easy to leave him with someone else, but we are happy with the person we have chosen.

That’s about it really.

It is snowing today and it is meant to snow for the next couple of days so…Winter has arrived. We are going to put our Christmas decorations up this weekend and that’s about it.

We have been busy since my last post, so this post is a bit long….

He hadn’t been up to much, until last week, so I had just posted the photos of Cameron dressed as a skeleton for Halloween.

Cameron got to see snow for the first time on Wednesday, October 29th!

img_0991 the snow didn’t last – it was in the teens last week, but we are expecting more soon – and I’m sure it will stay!

November 1st Dad was down in Toronto for football, so Mum watched Cameron and Brett and I went out to the pictures and out for dinner – it was a really nice night out and we are pretty sure that Granny Mackie had a great time too!

So, Dad was back on Sunday night and Aunt Christine and Robert came up with him as Carleton hosted the National Men’s Soccer Championship. Needless to say it has been a busy week for everyone.

Monday:

Robert and Dad came up to ours to fix a wee leak we had in the bath tub. I should clarify – Robert came up to fix the leak and Dad tagged along really. We didn’t get up to much else, except that Cameron was so excited to be able to get back into the ‘big’ bath he was in there for almost 20 minutes. He loves his bath. He kicks and laughs and screams and loves it – long may it last!

Tuesday:

So, this is when it all started – the chaos that is… Brett went with Robert to stock up the Hospitality Suite (in the hotel – all coaches were welcome to partake in a few drink). Brett and I went to see Spamalot at the NAC. It  great. So funny and so well done. We didn’t get home till midnight, and who was still up…Cameron (so was everyone else). This was the beginning of Cameron getting up in the night. We thought that he was maybe growing as he seemed to be hungry…little did we know…

Wednesday – Cameron was 6 months old – already!!!:

Aunt Christine and I took Cameron to his final swimming lesson, and he passed his first swimming class. As usual Cameron was he relaxed self. He enjoyed the water, crossed his legs and chewed on his fingers.

Cameron and I stayed at Mum and Dad’s. The boys stayed at the hotel all week so the ladies stayed at Mum’s. Cameron had another off night – he was up a couple of times.

Thursday:

Cameron saw his first Carleton defeat, and so their drive for the gold was over. Mum, Aunt Christine, Brett and I spent the morning helping to decorate the hall for the soccer banquet and then we went to the game. There were lots of people out to watch, but it just didn’t go Carleton’s way.

Friday;

Another football match, but a win this time. Aunt Christine and I headed back to ours as Stewart, Kate and Emily were coming up and were staying with Mum and Dad. Cameron had a great time with Aunt Christine – he was screaming and laughing and might very well have pulled out have of her hair!

Cameron had a pretty good day, but again he was bit off. We figured that he was teething as his cheeks had been really rosie and he was drooling a lot (he had been for a week or so).

Saturday:

Another football game and another win – Carleton placed 5th. We headed back to Mum and Dad’s and got a chance to visit with Stewart, Kate and Emily. They are all doing really well.

Emily is doing really well. She is rolling around all over the place. She gets really excited and pants like a little puppy – it is too cute! When she is rolling around she will sometimes stop to take a ‘break’. She puts her head down on the ground and ‘rests’, it is really cute.

Cameron and Emily were aware of each other, but Cameron was really fussy on Saturday and that’s when it all came together – the waking up during the night, being fussy etc. Cameron had cut his first tooth. It was right through the gum and must have been sore. Now when we look back at the past few weeks it makes sense, but really he wasn’t that ‘bad’ so we just thought he was ready to start teething, we didn’t think the tooth was already there!

Sunday:

Cameron had his lunch in his high chair for the first time, and it all went very well. We have decided to feed him in his chair at breakfast, lunch and supper so that he gets used to eating at the table.

Another football game and then everyone was ready for a good night sleep.

Yesterday – Monday, November 10th:

Cameron went to the doctor’s. He is doing really well and the doctor is pleased with his progress. She said he looks healthy and happy and told us to keep doing what we are because it is working

So, Cameron weighs 20.5 lbs, he is measuring 70cm and his head circumference is 43.5cm – all is good! He had another set of shots, but didn’t fuss too much. He had a sleepy afternoon and he slept all night so we think it took a bit out of him.

Today – Tuesday, November 11th:

Brett is a work and Cameron is having a nap. Cameron has slept quite a bit today, but he is doing well after his shots. He had peas for the first time today at lunch. He had 2 spoonfuls and wasn’t too sure about them, so I will try again tomorrow…

Other things….

Cameron still refuses to roll over, but he is sitting up by himself. He still has the odd nose plant, but in general he can sit up for a long time – someone still has to be with him, just in case :-)

Cameron also does this thing with his hands when he is really excited – it looks like he is going to start a motorcycle – it is really cute!

Cameron has also found his vocal chords – he has a new high pitched squeel and then a really low laugh it, like everything else, is really cute!

So, Cameron has had a busy couple of weeks – first snowfall, first Halloween, first Carleton defeat, first swimming lesson pass sticker, first tooth, first highchair meal, first time having peas and there are only going to be and more things to add to this list as he gets older!
